The Five Looks

Look 1

Hospital Gown

The Hospital Gown look served as the hero of the collection. The idea was to take a garment that’s traditionally unflattering and turn it into something that feels more high fashion: reimagining where the cutouts can be placed, how the straps can be tied and how the draping can make the garment flow beautifully down the runway.

Look 2

Gauze Gown

The Gauze Gown was a great material play. I meticulously shredded cotton gauze fabric as an overlay piece to give the one-shoulder dress more visual interest. Playing into the injury direction, the bandage wrappings topped off the look and quietly became another hero of the collection.

Look 3

Dog Bite Denim

Indigo denim, shredded and distressed until my hands cramped. Another meticulous process, this dress played into the idea of a garment shredded in a dog attack. I made it a floor-length maxi dress, which gave me more real estate to distress without compromising the design or overexposing the model.

Look 4

Black Ice Dress

The Black Ice look needed to feel intense, knowing the concept wouldn’t come across to the audience as obviously as the others. It was my first and last time constructing with latex, but the material formed to the body well, accentuating the model’s figure and nailing the overall vision for this look.

Look 5

3rd Degree Dress

Yes, this dress is actually burned. I trialed many different satins before landing on rayon satin because of how it took the high heat. I wanted it to feel authentic, not painted or printed on, so that somebody would stop and ask, “Is this actually burned?”
